The Gathering Place
The Gathering Place is a caring community that supports, educates and empowers individuals and families touched by cancer through programs and services provided
free of charge.
Founded in 2000 by Executive Director, Eileen Saffran, with the help and support of Ellen Heyman, Director of Programming, and members of the Greater Cleveland community, The Gathering Place has served over 17,000 individuals who have made more than 94,000 visits. The wide variety of programs and services offered address the social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of those touched by cancer.
The Gathering Place has two extensive
education centers that include lending libraries with over 2,500 books, cds, tapes and videos. Public lectures by local experts offer the latest information on cancer treatments and complementary medicine. The
medical librarians will help research any questions you have along the cancer journey.
The Gathering Place offers
support groups to help individuals cope with the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis. There are general groups for all types of cancer and specific groups for individuals with breast cancer, colon cancer, leukemia or lymphoma, melanoma, myeloma, prostate cancer, advanced disease and for teens with cancer and younger adults with cancer.
Gentle exercise classes and
healing touch methods can aid in the management of stress and the side effects of cancer and its treatment. Yoga, tai chi, Pilates, massage, reiki and reflexology are also available for individuals with cancer and their family members and friends.
We encourage
the entire family to participate at The Gathering Place. There are age-appropriate support groups, educations classes, and social activities for children dealing with cancer in a family member, and specialized caring staff to help families along the journey.
The Gathering Place funding comes from individuals, families, memorial contributions, organizations, foundations and corporations, special events, in-kind donations and our resale shop, TGP Collection.
